This hardy ground fern is endemic to Australia and grows in a variety of habitats, from bushland near the coast to the snow country in Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales.  A tufted fern with dark green, erect fronds which often have buds or small plants near the tips.  Young fronds are a distinctive yellow-green when they emerge in Spring.  Mature plants form a short stout trunk.  Polystichum proliferum is a hardy fern that grows well in either shade or sunlight.  The ideal ground cover for under tree ferns.
