The Blechnum nudum can grow a short trunk up to 1 metre tall and often have multiple trunks on the same plant. They are ground ferns and not true tree ferns. Blechnum nudum is the perfect fern for planting around water features in the garden.
The Fishbone Fern is the most common species of Blechum in eastern Australia. It can be found in Australia in Victoria, Tasmania, SA, NSW, and Queensland. It often forms large colonies of bright-green fronds in soaks, swamps and slow-moving streams. If moisture is present, it can stand a good deal of sunlight so can also be found on the edge of forests and heathlands. However it grows best with some shade. Popular in cultivation and proven to be resilient.
